SAN DIEGO (SDJW)– The student council at San Diego State University on April 22 adopted a resolution labeling Israel’s war against Hamas as “genocide,” and calling on the university administration to divest from Israel, it was reported by The Daily Aztec, a student-run campus newspaper.
The resolution, which was debated for seven hours by the council, was heavily amended — so much so that the Associated Students had to delay publication of its final version until this week.
Its passage was celebrated by its main author Yucef Bouzina, the A.S. student diversity representative, and co-author Samar Ismail, vice president of executive affairs for the Graduate Student Association.
One student, Ari Cohen, the representative from the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts, cast the lone vote against the advisory measure.
