SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — On Sunday, May 17, close friends and family gathered to celebrate the dedication of the Aviva Saad and Ronnie Diamond Older Adult Center, formerly known as the Balboa Avenue Older Adult Center.
Twenty-five years ago, this special older adult program began with a simple but powerful belief: People who were lonely or living with Alzheimer’s and dementia deserved dignity, compassion, understanding, and happiness – and that no family should face this journey alone.
Now named in honor of Aviva Saad, founding program coordinator of 19 years, and Ronnie Diamond, who worked hard to start and continually fundraise for the Center since it first began as the University City Older Adult Center. The Center that now bears their names will carry forward their legacies of compassion, connection, community and care.
Jewish Family Service of San Diego thanked the many people who were instrumental in the Center’s journey over the past two decades, including former staff, volunteers and community supporters.
“What began as an idea, became a community. What began as a concern, became action. And what began with a handful of caring people, became a lasting source of hope and support for so many families,” said Diamond.
