NEW YORK CITY (SDJW) –Three anti-Israel congressional candidates endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani were victorious in Tuesday’s Democratic primary election.
In New York’s 9th congressional district, from which Nydia Velasquez is retiring, Claire Valdez, a New York state assemblywoman, prevailed. Velasquez had endorsed Brooklyn borough President Antonio Reynoso to succeed her in Congress.
Brad Lander, who is a Jewish former New York City councilman and comptroller, defeated fellow Jew Dan Goldman, an incumbent in New York City’s 10th congressional district.
In the 13th district, incumbent Adriano Espaillat was ousted by Darializa Avila Chevalier, an anti-Israel activist since her days at Columbia University as a member of Students for Justice in Palestine.
Mamdani was neutral in the race to succeed retiring longtime congressman Jerry Nadler in the 12th district. That race featured two pro-Israel Jewish state assemblymen — the victor Micah Lasher and the second-place finisher Alex Bores. Other candidates included Jack Kennedy Shlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy; and George Conway, a vociferous critic of President Donald Trump.
