The fight against terrorism and antisemitism: Oct. 4, 2016

SDJW staff report

When neighbors of the RAF Fairford air base witnessed American bombers taking off one after the other on Sunday, they realized something major was afoot.  It turned out that U.S. authorities had ordered the bombers to be returned to American soil in response to what British authorities described as a developing Iranian plot aimed at the airbase from which U.S. bombers had taken off earlier this year for bombing sorties over Iran.

The order came in the wake of British authorities arresting six men in the last week on charges of preparing a terrorist plot.  Five British men in three white vans were arrested midweek and given police bail the next day, under stringent conditions, and a sixth man holding British and Iranian dual citizenship was arrested in London subsequently.

Although the Iranian Embassy in London issued a formal denial of any participation in a plot against the airbase, its military spokespersons earlier in the year had said any airbase from which the bombers took off was a fair target for retaliation.
