LONDON (WJC)–The British low-cost airline EasyJet has apologized to its Jewish passengers after only having pork products on offer during a London-bound flight from Tel Aviv, instead of kosher food. Some passengers were forced to go hungry during the 4 1/2-hour trip. A spokeswoman for EasyJet said incorrect food canisters had been loaded onto the aircraft, though the ham and bacon sandwiches had not been served to passengers.
EasyJet’s standard practice is to offer kosher and vegetarian sandwiches on board Israeli flights, the spokeswoman said. She said the airline also offers non-kosher products but its policy, was not to load any pork products. “We would like to apologize to the passengers, and can confirm we have done everything we can to ensure that this does not happen again,” the airline said.
A passenger told the ‘Daily Mail’ newspaper that EasyJet had been “a little insensitive,” adding: “I think they need a lesson or two on cultural awareness if they expand their routes into the Middle East. It is not just Jewish passengers who do not eat pork but Muslim ones too.”
