JERUSALEM [SDJW] — A party was held for Isaac Herzog on Monday, July 5, the day he officially retired as chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, and two days before he assumes office as the next president of the nation of Israel, succeeding Reuven Rivlin. Among those joining the celebration were Metadel Sisai, 14, an immigrant from Ethiopia, and Oliana Goodim, an 11 year old immigrant from the Ukraine. ““Even if your new surroundings seem unfamiliar to you, just remember it is your home in the same way that Israel is our home,” the two youngsters advised the incoming President. Said Herzog: ““The Jewish Agency is doing holy work on behalf of the Jewish people. After 2,000 years of exile, we had the opportunity to return and build a miraculous and robust country. I’m grateful for the incredible opportunity to lead such an amazing organization that works day and night for Jews around the world, serving as a bridge upon which four and a half million immigrants made Aliyah to Israel and established more than 900 communities throughout the country. The Jewish Agency also protects Jews around the world, dispatches thousands of Shlichim around the globe and brings hundreds of young men and women to Israel so they can experience the country firsthand. We’re a small nation of a mere 14.5 million among the 7 billion people in the world, and have a unique legacy and a bright future. May we have peace and prosperity in our land, for both veteran Israelis and new immigrants.” [Preceding based on material provided by the Jewish Agency]
