Chuck Todd was born April 8, 1972, as Charles David Todd in Miami, Florida, the son of Stephen Randolph Todd and his Jewish wife Cheri Bernstein.  After graduating Miami Killian Senior High in the greater Miami area, he studied political science at George Washington University, but did not obtain a degree.  While in college he worked in the 1992 presidential campaign of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and later joined the National Journal’s The Hotline.

Between 1992 and 2007, he worked at The Hotline, hosting webcasts and a weekly show and serving for six years as its editor-in-chief.  He also made guest appearances on political talk shows. This led to a job at NBC providing on-air political analysis for the network’s various news shows.  Following Tim Russert’s death in June 2008, David Gregory became the host of Meet The Press, and Todd became NBC News Chief White House Correspondent while continuing to serve as on-air political analyst.

Todd also co-anchored with Savannah Guthrie The Daily Rundown in the 9 a.m. slot of MSNBC until September 7, 2014 when he took over Meet the Press.  In 2019, he was a moderator of the Democratic Party presidential debates.  On June 4, 2023, Todd announced he would complete his tenure as moderator of Meet the Press.  He was succeeded by Kristen Welker.

He is married to Democratic political consultant Kristian Denny Todd, with whom he has two children.  Although his wife is Christian, they are members of Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia.  He co-authored with Sheldon Gawiser in 2009 How Barack Obama Won: A State by State Guide to the Historic 2008 Presidential Election.  In 2014, he published The Stranger: Barack Obama in the Whie House.  Todd is an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Tomorrow, April 9: Leon Blum
