LA MESA, California – Jewish Federation of San Diego, Lawrence Family JCC, Israeli American Council and Jewish Community Foundation San Diego have three community gatherings happening all in one week. If you work for the Federation, JCC, IAC or JCFSD or know someone who does, they deserve a hug, yasher koach or, L’Chaim for all the work that goes into coordinating these events. All three of these events are free and open to the public but register for them for attendance purposes.

There will be a “Yom HaShoah: Community Holocaust Commemoration” at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at the Lawrence Family JCC. This event is a solemn day to honor the memory of the six million Jews lost in the Holocaust. Hear personal reflections, the voices of Survivors and their descendants, and a keynote address from Vlad Khaykin of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Click here to register.

“Yom HaZikaron: Israel’s Memorial Day” at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, at Lawrence Family JCC. This event is Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. The ceremony will include personal stories and moments of reflection as attendees stand in solidarity with Israel and honor those who have died. Click here to register.

Holocaust Living History Workshop presents “Rain of Ash: Roma, Jews and the Holocaust featuring Ari Joskowicz” at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at the University California San Diego Geisel Library or Virtual. Joskowicz will discuss his book Rain of Ash (2023) and examine the entanglement of the histories of Jews and Romani people.
