Some Upcoming Events Following Yom Kippur

Ner Tamid Synagogue invites the community to its “Pizza in the Hut” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8. The event includes fulfilling the mitzvot of dwelling in the Sukkah and waving the lulav. Pizza and sides for dinner. Click here to register.

Tifereth Israel Synagogue presents “Sukkot Special Oneg: Following Kabbalat Shabbat” at 6:15 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10. The event will include Rabbi Hanan Leberman and Ariel Hirsch leading in prayer filled with joy and infused with ruach (spirit). Following the service, a special Oneg featuring desserts, cheeses, and much more while fulfilling the mitzvah of dwelling in the Sukkah. Click here to rsvp by Monday, Oct. 6.

Chabad Poway invites the community to its “Family Sukkot Party: Pizza in a Hut” at 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12. The event includes pizza, dinner, a big bounce house, and outdoor activities. Click here to register.

AROUND THE COUNTY

Tifereth Israel Synagogue reports its Dignity Drive will be collecting items through Wednesday, Oct. 15. Items include non-perishable food items, grains, proteins, canned items, snacks, flour, sugar, cooking oils, toiletries, diapers, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, 13 sets of twin sheets, 2 queen size sheet sets, blankets, bath towels, 3 sets of cooking pans, 3 electric tea kettles, 3 sets of eating utensils (forks, knives, spoons) for 8 or more people. Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism (COE) alerted Congregation Beth Israel of an impending swatting incident – a hoax call to emergency services intended to draw a large police response and instill a sense of fear. COE disrupted the action, bringing relief to the congregants and leading to multiple arrests.

Ner Tamid Synagogue reports help needed to build its Sukkah, starting at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 5. Organizers say to bring work gloves and is also in need of palm clippings that can be dropped off Friday before services, Saturday after Havdalah or Sunday morning.

Poway’s Camp Gan Izzy announces its “Fall Break Camp” starting at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, until Wednesday, Nov. 26. The camp includes field trips, arts and crafts, baking, games, and more for ages 4 to 12 years old. Click here to register.

SCY High School reports its students celebrated Tashlich at Mission Bay. Rabbi Michaels prepared and presented a creative program for the boys and rebbeim. The reflection prompts were printed on two different sheets of paper, one regular and one that was designed to dissolve away in water. Michaels challenged the students to think and reflect on habits, thoughts, and behaviors to let go and leave to dissolve in the bay, and positive traits to hold on to for Yom Kippur. Yasher Koach!

OBITUARY NOTICE

Sally Green has died. The funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at El Camino Memorial Park with Rabbi Alexis Berk of Temple Solel as officiant, Am Israel Mortuary reports.
