LA MESA, California – October is here, and in San Diego, it is starting to feel like Fall. For some of us locals, we refer to October as “second summer,” since this is when the tourists have left and October is less crowded for us to enjoy some of the tourist spots and not have trouble finding parking, a place to eat outdoors, or a walk on the beach, or have the sand to ourselves.
Sukkot is here and is also enjoyable when the weather is warm, but it starts to get cool at night. We savor enjoying a warm apple cider in the sukkah and looking up at the stars peeking through the palm branch roof on top.
Below are many fun celebrations around the county celebrating Sukkot and the opportunity to fulfill the three mitzvot of dwelling in a sukkah, shaking the lulav and etrog, and having a meal in a sukkah.

Beth Jacob Congregation announces its “Simchas Beis HaShoeva” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9. The event includes all you can eat pizza and fries; “Bags,” the fire juggling circus performer; dancing; and celebrating together as a community.

Peace of Mind San Diego and Congregation Beth El will be hosting a “Shabbat Dinner” at 6:15 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at Congregation Beth El.
