When asked about his phone call with Putin before he met with Zelenskyy, Donald Trump commented, “Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed.” Indeed, Putin’s goodwill toward Ukraine was on display this past weekend when he launched a major missile barrage against its civilian and energy infrastructure this past weekend. Somehow, I don’t get the feeling that Putin rained destruction on Ukraine because he seeks to replace outdated facilities and housing with more modern ones. If Trump is as gullible with other people he admires as he is with Putin, I anticipate the following headlines.
–“Trump announces that Viktor Orbán has invited George Soros back to Hungary to receive an award for promoting democracy in the country.”
–“Trump praises Ghislaine Maxwell for opting to do community service with the Girl Scouts of America after renouncing ever engaging in sex trafficking again.”
–“Trump believes Bari Weiss passed a lie detector test when she pledged to never interfere with reporting by CBS News in general and 60 Minutes in particular.”
–“Trump gains assurances from Kim Jong Un that the missile tests he conducts are for North Korea’s peaceful space program.”
–“Trump certain that Bibi Netanyahu will grant independence to the West Bank and Gaza after the terms of the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas are fulfilled.”
–“Trump not worried about the security of Taiwan because Xi Jinping explained that the Chinese warships currently surrounding the island are there to protect Taiwan’s sovereignty.”
