  1. As headlines continue to expose the troubles surrounding Rep. Sara Jacobs — the billionaire heiress incumbent in California’s 51st District — and her financial backing of boyfriend Ammar Campa-Najjar’s repeated failed campaigns (including allegations of vile race and sex slurs and questions about his Navy record), voters in the 51st are left wondering: Is this the leadership San Diego deserves?

Stan Caplan, a small-business owner who has served San Diego families for nearly 40 years through Caplan Financial, is running a very different kind of campaign.

After running as a Republican in 2022 and seeing the harsh district math, Caplan made a pragmatic decision: he filed as a Democrat to become the Trojan Horse for Common Sense. His goal is not to join the progressive machine or rely on billionaire family money, but to fight from the inside for the 80% of issues that matter most to working families.

“My strategy is simple and fully transparent,” said Caplan. “I’m not hiding anything. I’m entering the Democratic primary because that’s where the decisive votes are. Voters deserve real results on kitchen-table issues — not more scandals or special-interest politics.”

Caplan’s platform focuses on practical relief:

Lowering skyrocketing SDG&E bills and water rates that are pricing families out
Rejecting unfair mileage taxes on working commuters
Restoring safe streets and cleaning up neighborhoods
    Protecting parental rights in schools
Ensuring fairness and safety in women’s sports for biological females
Securing the border while putting American citizens first
Eliminating federal income taxes on the first $50,000 of earned income
    Supporting term limits for Congress

“Voters — whether Democrat, Republican, or No Party Preference — are exhausted by labels, scandals, and self-interest,” Caplan added. “On June 2nd, they have the power to choose a representative who will actually fight for them instead of playing the same old game.”
