The Orthodox Union has settled on its top executives following the death of its executive vice president Rabbi Moshe Hauer. Succeeding Hauer in the EVP position is Rabbi Shmuel Silber of Baltimore. Meanwhile Rabbi Dr Josh Joseph has been elevated from the executive vice president and chief operations officer to chief executive officer. Rabbis Silber and Joseph will both report directly to the OU Executive Committee.

Rabbi Simcha Weiser, formerly the longtime headmaster of San Diego Hebrew Day School, is now the Head of School at the Starr Family Jewish Day School, which recently was awarded Cognia Reaccreditation. Commented Weiser: “Starr Family Jewish Day School has more than earned this recognition. Going forward from here, we aspire to further improve standards and build parallel excellence in developing the character of each child. As San Antonio’s only Jewish day school, we are carrying forward the precious legacy of Torah wisdom and Jewish values.”

Jewish families and individuals are signing the Jewish Future Promise, with 200,000 units so far pledging to direct at least half their future charitable giving to Jewish caused including Israel. Together, they represent an estimated $6.821 billion in future philanthropic commitments to Jewish life.

The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law is urging the federal Department of Justice to investigate Northwestern University’s relationship with Qatar and its government-controlled Qatar Foundation. This came in response to Qatar’s donation of $737 million for Northwestern’s satellite campus in the capital city of Doha. Brandeis Center officials wants the DOJ to determine whether the university has been acting on behalf of a foreign government without the transparency federal law requires.
