SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — We’re excited to welcome Amit Levi as our new Community Shlicha, an Israeli emissary who will help strengthen connections between San Diego and Israel. She will spend the next two years with our community through a partnership between Jewish Federation of San Diego, RootOne, and The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI).
Based at Federation, Amit will work with organizations, schools, synagogues, youth groups, and other partners across our community to create more meaningful ways for people to connect with Israel.
In this community-wide role, she will serve as a resource and connector, helping bring Israeli perspectives and experiences to San Diego, deepen relationships across our community, and expand opportunities for teens to experience Israel firsthand.
Amit brings five years of experience in leadership development, group facilitation, and creating spaces for connection across diverse communities. Her work has included leading a multi-year leadership program for Haredi women in academia, facilitating processing journeys for soldiers and combat-support personnel who served during the Swords of Iron War, supporting a national program for young adults with and without disabilities, and leading dialogue circles between Jewish and Palestinian students.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. through the Ruderman Program focused on the relationship between Israel and Diaspora Jewry, a connection that feels especially meaningful as she begins this new chapter in San Diego.
“More than anything, I’m coming into this role with a desire to learn. I want to get to know the people, organizations, schools, synagogues, teens, families, and stories that make up this community, and to discover together where shlichut can add meaning and connection.”
We’re excited for our community to get to know Amit in the months ahead and to see the relationships, ideas, and opportunities that grow from her work.
