‘Family Day’ Nov. 6 to be a highlight of SD Jewish Book Fair

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacobs Family Campus, presents “Family Day,” a collaboration with Nierman Preschool, on Sun., November 6, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Family Day is part of the 17th Annual San Diego Jewish Book Fair, sponsored by The Viterbi Family Foundation.

“Family Day” will be packed with activities, entertainment, and learning experiences for the whole family. Thanks to underwriting by Dr. Andrew and Erna Viterbi and the Gary & Jerri-Ann Jacobs Youth Endowment Fund, the day’s activities are free to the community.

Children are invited to the Nierman Preschool Campus to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities including:
· The Kid Zone (sponsored by KidVentures), with activity stations including an obstacle course and crafts;
· Puppeteer Mallory Lewis (daughter of Shari Lewis) with Lambchop;
· Musical selections by On the Town, J*Company Youth Theatre’s critically acclaimed singing ambassador troupe. On the Town will perform selections from J*Company’s current La Jolla Playhouse Tribute Season;
· Bal Yoga for Kids with Myrna Cohen, Sylvia Roth and Glenda Kacev, incorporating songs, poses and illustrations to the corresponding letters of the alphabet;
· Book Nook where parents can spend some quiet time and read a book to their child.

Children will be thrilled by the opportunity to meet three of their favorite authors: Rabbi Joe Black (Afrikomen Mambo and Boker Tov), Ellen Bari (Jumping Jenny), and Amy Meltzer (The Shabbat Princess). The Children’s Bookstore will be open during Family Day and authors will be available to sign purchased books.

Children are encouraged to bring new or gently used children’s books to Family Day. They will be donated to the Ronald Donald House.

As a post-Family Day treat, Rabbi Joe Black will present a family concert in the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre at 2 p.m. Tickets for adults are $5 and children (2 years and older) are $3. The concert is sponsored by Geppetto’s.

The San Diego Jewish Book Fair and FAMILY DAY take place at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 4126 Executive Drive, La Jolla. For more information or for tickets to the concert by Rabbi Joe Black, call 858-362-1348, or visit www.sdjbf.org.

The 17th Annual San Diego Jewish Book Fair offers thousands of titles for sale and is open to the public November 3-13. Kicking off this year’s book fair is Gilad Sharon, son of Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel. Sharon recounts the remarkable story of his father, which is in essence the story of modern-day Israel itself in Sharon: The Life of a Leader.

The Book Fair also features Adam Mansbach with his “children’s book for adults,” Go the F*** to Sleep; noted journalist Thanassis Cambanis, who explores the people who control or are impacted by Hezbollah in A Privilege to Die: Inside Hezbollah’s Legions and Their Endless War Against Israel; Rabbi Mark Glickman, revealing one of the greatest discoveries in Jewish history in Sacred Treasure: The Cairo Genizah; absurdist and musician Adam Chester with S’Mother: The Story of a Man, His Mom, and the Thousands of Altogether Insane Letters She’s Mailed Him; popular psychologist Wendy Mogel, who follows up her previous bestsellers on parenting with Blessing of a B Minus; and NBC correspondent Martin Fletcher with his latest novel, The List.
