Former Sheriff Bill Kolender endorses Dave Roberts for county supervisor

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Former San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender announced his endorsement this week of Solana Beach Deputy Mayor Dave Roberts to be the next Third District Supervisor for San Diego County.

“Dave Roberts works diligently to promote safe communities,” said former Sheriff Kolender. “He has been a great friend of the Sheriff’s Department and worked tirelessly on the regional SANDAG Public Safety committee and the League of California Cities Public Safety Policy Committee to reduce gang violence, step-up graffiti abatement efforts, and support initiatives to combat Internet Crimes Against Children. His track record speaks for itself. That’s why I wholeheartedly endorse Dave Roberts for County Supervisor.”

Roberts launched his campaign for Third District Supervisor on January 10, 2012, and the primary election is on June 5, 2012.

“When I launched my campaign for County Supervisor, I pledged to work in a bipartisan fashion with all leaders to improve our region’s public safety,” said Roberts. “Having the strong support of a leader such as former Sheriff Bill Kolender, whom I have worked with, demonstrates my commitment to provide the nonpartisan leadership we need on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.”

Dave Roberts is a two-term councilmember and Deputy Mayor of the City of Solana Beach. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for San Diego County’s Consolidated Transportation Services Agency. A nationally-recognized expert in healthcare policy, he was appointed in both the Bush and the Obama Administrations to national advisory leadership roles focused on maximizing the cost-effectiveness and delivery of Medicare, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Programs. In addition, he helped to create the military’s current healthcare system.  He is a past chairman of the San Dieguito River Valley Park Joint Powers Authority and helped lead the efforts to rebuild the park when over 60 percent was destroyed by the 2007 fires.

He has adopted five children from the county ranging in ages from three to sixteen and has lived in San Diego County for nearly two decades.
