RICHMOND, Virginia (Press Release) – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) issued the following statement in connection with the nation’s Memorial Day observances:

“America has a proud history of global leadership and military strength. This weekend, I met U.S. Marine Sergeant John Peck of Fredericksburg, Virginia – a man who all but gave his life for our great country. Less than a year after being deployed to Iraq, Sergeant Peck was injured by an IED blast and suffered a traumatic brain injury. An unstoppable marine, Sergeant Peck was soon back on the front lines in Afghanistan. On a routine sweep of IEDs, Sergeant Peck was hit again – this time causing him to lose both legs and both arms.

“Sergeant Peck is an American hero whose resilience, selflessness, and dedication to American freedom is awe-inspiring. ..  (L)et us remember all our nation’s heroes and veterans by recommitting to an America that leads through strength. … (L)et us reflect on the sacrifice of those like Sergeant Peck and all Americans who have made the final sacrifice for our freedom.”
