WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)— Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) released on Monday, June 9, the following statement in response to the recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) announcement that measles cases in the United States have reached a 20-year high:
“Measles was considered eliminated from the United States in 2000, but this year there have already been more than 300 reported cases—the most for any year since 1994. Typically, there are about 10 cases a year in California; so far this year, there have been 60 cases. We are also seeing an increase in cases of whooping cough.
“The good news is that there is a simple and effective way to protect ourselves: vaccination. For the health of our children and our communities, everyone has a responsibility to get vaccinated. If not, this outbreak will only continue to spread.
