NEW YORK (Press Release) –Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman of Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, said on Thursday, June 19, that “we mourn the loss of Evelyn Gross, mother of Alan Gross who has been imprisoned for more than four years in Cuba. The sadness of her passing is compounded by the failure of the Cuban government to allow Mr. Gross compassionate leave, although they knew how grave her medical condition was.
“We express our condolences to Alan and the entire Gross family and pray that they will find comfort at this difficult time. The family should be together at this time to strengthen one another. It is long overdue that Alan be released and we urge the American government, NGOs involved in Cuba, and those with connections to the Cuban government to forcefully raise this issue and demand that Alan be released immediately. There is no justification for his incarceration and the continuing denial of his civil and human rights.”
