SAN DIEGO (SDJW)– A new Jewish magazine, L’Chaim San Diego, began delivering its inaugural issue to Jewish venues and early subscribers throughout the county. Its publisher, Diane Benaroya, said it was timed to come out prior to Rosh Hashanah so the San Diego Jewish community could begin a New Year and a new magazine together.
Among features in the first edition of L’Chaim San Diego is an article about Israeli photographer Alon David, who has settled in San Diego, and has been very much in evidence at community and private Jewish simchas. Now he’s putting together a data base of vendors for your next simcha celebration.
Benaroya, who sold advertisements for many years for the monthly San Diego Jewish Journal, is joined in this venture by journalist Alanna Berman, who previously served as San Diego Jewish Journal‘s editor.
Other articles in the first issue include vegan Jeffrey Cohan’s ideas of a perfect High Holy Day menu. As president of the Jewish Vegetarians of North America, he offers what he describes as an ideal diet as laid out in the Torah.
Another feature deals with Jewish music in San Diego, spotlighting the San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir as its members seek to preserve the culture and sounds of the past, all the while giving them a contemporary twist.
“We at the daily, on-line San Diego Jewish World welcome this magazine and wish its staff plenty of luck as they help to describe and inspire our growing Jewish community in San Diego County,” said Donald H. Harrison, SDJW’s editor and publisher.
“I hope our readers will examine the monthly L’Chaim San Diego, and as that magazine grows, that its readers will come to our website for daily updates on the Jewish scene,” Harrison added.
