‘Legacy of Light and Love’ to provide care for needy elderly

Seacrest Foundation is hosting the 2020 Women’s Auxiliary Gala, “Legacy of Light and Love,” to benefit the increasing numbers of community members in the greatest need.  The event will take place on Saturday, February 22nd, from 6-11 pm, and all proceeds raised will support Seacrest Village Retirement Community’s Resident Assistance Fund. Yee’s back with ‘Cambodian Rock Band’

Playwright Lauren Yee has returned home to roost at UC San Diego’s Potiker theater. No stranger to San Diego stages, Yee has been producing plays since before 2005 at the Old Globe, South Coast Rep, and farther afield as well. Audiences in Denver, Seattle and Miami have enjoyed Yee’s shows, many of which have garnered her coveted awards including the Doris Duke Artists Award, the Horton Foote Prize and the Steinberg/ATCA Award. A freshened grinch at the Old Globe

Noura and the problems of immigrant families

Heather Raffo’s new play, Noura, the Old Globe’s West Coast premiere, unveils the story of a Chaldean couple who are Iraqi refugees. They’ve been in America for seven years, but are celebrating their first Christmas as American citizens. Their new passports sport new American names, Tareq is now Tim, Noura is now Nora, and their son, Yazen has morphed into Alex. While Tim seems happy with this development, Noura is resentful and doesn’t like the adaptation.

Eight Bad Dates — Epilogue

One common thread that surprised me was how many readers wanted to know what happened after the date, or more precisely, how the date ended. Whilst writing, I guess that was a foregone conclusion.  Few of these resulted in a second date. In nearly every situation it didn’t take a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to determine that there was no chemistry! And I never even took Chemistry! (Thank G-d it wasn’t a requirement at Mamaroneck High back in the day.)
