BRUSSELS (WJC) — The World Jewish Congress (WJC) hosted 30 young Jewish professionals from 18 different countries for a two-day training session in diplomacy and outreach. Core members of the Jewish Diplomatic Corps, a program of the WJC, met in the European capital to learn about the art of building and nurturing relationships with diplomats.
The aim of the ‘Diplomacy Project’ was to give them the necessary tools to advance the diplomatic agenda of the World Jewish Congress.
The ‘Jewish Diplomats’ (JDs), as there are called, heard presentations from ambassadors and other diplomats from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary and Israel; engaged in discussions with two leading Brussels-based journalists; and they met with the head of protocol of the Council of the European Union. Moreover, a diplomatic simulation was held, so participants could practice the skills they acquire.
WJC President Ronald S. Lauder hosted a lunch for the seminar participants at which he shared his experience as a former US ambassador and Jewish leader with the group. The JDs also took part in the ceremony held at the European Parliament on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day which was addressed by Lauder.
WJC CEO Robert Singer declared: “This seminar has demonstrated the synergies that exist across the World Jewish Congress, and I am convinced that these outstanding young people who are so committed to working on behalf of Israel and the Jewish people will be a key asset for the WJC in the future.”
