NEW YORK (Press Release) — The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Tuesday, March 10, called Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s comments about Israeli Arabs “divisive and unacceptable” and urged all candidates in Israel’s upcoming general election to avoid extremist rhetoric.
In a campaign appearance on March 8, Minister Lieberman, who is head of the Yisrael Beiteinu Party, used incendiary language suggesting Israeli Arabs who are not loyal to the State of Israel should be subjected to the worst kind of violence.
“Minister Lieberman’s comments are divisive and unacceptable,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. “Even suggesting that violence is an appropriate course of action against political rivals is beyond the pale.”
Foxman added, “While the last week of any election campaign features frenzied political positioning, we urge all candidates to exercise restraint in their language and avoid extremist rhetoric.”
