WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) — In response to Wednesday night’s (March 11) shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, Rabbi Jonah Pesner, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:
“We condemn in the strongest terms last night’s shooting of two Ferguson police officers and are praying for their full and swift recovery. Those responsible for this terrible act must be brought to justice. Such acts of violence have no place in civilized society, and the targeting of police officers is especially heinous.
The city of Ferguson has already known too much violence, and so we pray for healing – physical, social and spiritual – that will allow the community to move forward in strength. Like in Jeremiah (29:7), we ‘seek the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you and pray to God on its behalf; for in its prosperity you shall prosper.'”
