Minister Erdan and Secretary Nielsen at the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (Press Release) —  U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen arrived in Israel Monday to take part in the International Homeland and Public Security Ministerial Forum on enhancing international cooperation that will start Tuesday in Jerusalem. Sec. Nielsen will take major role in the conference.

The meeting between Israel’s Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan and United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen in Jerusalem was the first meeting of senior Ministers from Israel and the USA to take part in the newly open US Embassy in Jerusalem.

On 12 June in Jerusalem, 20 International ministers and vice ministers will join the International Ministerial Forum on enhancing international cooperation in combatting the threats facing the world today from terrorism, incitement, radicalization and cyber-attacks. Erdan discussed with Nielsen the importance of demanding responsibility by social media networks for inciting content and calls for terrorism, as well as his intention to create an international binding standard that will force responsibility over the internet networks for incitement and terror promoting content on their platforms.

“Your arrival to Israel and to joining our conference signifies that we must cooperate to combat terror and that sharing our experience will be helpful for other countries. The conference that I have initiated is first of its kind and we see an unprecedented amount of participating countries. This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate and to fight together against terrorism, with an emphasis on ways to act with social media to prevent incitement to terrorism and how to strengthen the work of the police forces that are at the forefront of the fight against terrorism. I am proud that the meeting with Sec. Nielsen took place in the US Embassy in Jerusalem” Minister Erdan said.
