SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego issued this advisory on Monday, Sept. 9:
Hurricane Dorian was the most powerful on record ever to hit the Bahamas. Dozens of people are believed to have been killed and up to 60,000 people may be in dire need of food and supplies. More than 13,000 houses – or 45 percent of the homes on the islands – are believed to have been destroyed. Emergency needs are ongoing and support for relief efforts are critical.
Ways To Help
The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and The Greater Miami Jewish Federation have established Emergency Relief Funds to assist those affected by Hurricane Dorian. One hundred percent of funds donated to Hurricane Dorian relief will be used to provide critically needed aid to those in affected areas.
The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) announced that it will provide emergency medical supplies through its partner the AFYA Foundation, and is raising funds for these and other critical needs, including recovery and reconstruction initiatives.
IsraAID’s Emergency Response team will distribute urgent relief supplies, while conducting further needs assessments in affected communities.
Americares is a health-focused relief and development organization that responds to people affected by poverty or disaster. They are sending lifesaving aid and supplies to families in the Bahamas and Atlantic coast.
The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) has been caring for hundreds of pets. You can help their shelter recover from Hurricane Dorian by making a donation today.
