SAN DIEGO (Press Release)  — The Chabad Centers of San Diego County will be joining together to celebrate the Jewish festival of Lag B’Omer, a holiday that is typically celebrated with large outings and bonfires.

Lag B’Omer is the day when the Jewish people celebrate the life of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai (known by the acronym Rashbi), who authored the Zohar, the major work of Jewish Mysticism. It is a day when unity is of particular importance.

This year, due to the coronavirus and the social distancing requirements, a whole new approach will be utilized to mark this 2000 year old holiday.

A family-friendly drive through Circus, complete with numerous circus acts, live music, and festival floats will adorn the 27- acre Chabad Hebrew Academy / Chabad San Diego Headquarters Campus parking lot, located at 10785 Pomerado Road, San Diego.

Families will be able to enjoy the entertainment in the comfort and safety of their cars as they wend their way through exciting circus acts, balloon displays, jugglers, clowns, raffle prizes, and even dinner-to-go.

Rabbi Yonah Fradkin, Regional Director of Chabad of San Diego explained, “We realized that the joy of Lag B’Omer was especially important this year; with everyone cooped up due to the virus. We came up with a way to bring the joy to the people while maintaining the social distancing requirements and with the blessings and support of our elected officials and law enforcement. Everyone wins. People are able to get out of their houses. Health requirements are scrupulously guarded. And the children will be ‘over the moon’ with joy when they see what we are putting together for them!”

For security purposes advance reservations and tickets ($4 per person, which is all inclusive) must be purchased by visiting the dedicated website: www.ChabadExperience.com.

Rabbi Fradkin stated, “Thank G-d we were able to subsidize the enormous cost of this festival experience due to the generosity of some of our wonderful supporters who are willing to invest in the happiness of our precious children during these difficult times!”

The first ever Lag B’Omer Drive-Through Circus Experience will take place on Tuesday, May 12 with the gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The last car will be allowed in at 7:30 p.m.
