SDJA Senior Class Program Resumes in Israel

SDJA students on Israel field trip, 2021S

HOD HASHARON, Israel  (Press Release)– San Diego Jewish Academy high school seniors were among the first students traveling to Israel again to continue learning and touring the country through the Jewish National Fund-USA Alexander Muss High School in Israel program (AMHSI). The spring semester abroad in Israel is a regular part of the SDJA experience, but was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

“We are thrilled that our seniors can experience learning and living in Israel,” says Michael Quigley, head of SDJA’s Upper School. “This is a special opportunity for them to be there as a class, learning and discovering together. Alexander Muss High School in Israel enables our students to explore and gain a new appreciation for the history of Israel along with all the complexities of Israel today. Senior year is such a formative year in a young person’s life, and the Israel experience provides unique and wonderful opportunities for personal growth.”

While enrolled in the AMHSI program, students engage in classes, small group discussion, and participate in experiential opportunities throughout the country. It is through this model of education, students reflect and enhance their personal identity as future Jewish leaders.

Helping students develop a deep, personally meaningful and long-lasting relationship with Israel is integral to the mission of San Diego Jewish Academy. Students spend years learning about Israel, knowing that it will culminate in spending their final semester of high school in Israel, traveling the country and engaging in all that it has to offer.

Quigley adds, “After a year filled with uncertainty, students, parents and faculty are thrilled that the class is able to participate in the immersive program.”
