Satire: Comparative Compassion

SAN DIEGO — Joe Biden has been visiting various sites where natural disasters and extreme weather have wreaked havoc. Since Donald Trump still thinks he is the president, he is considering taking trips to the same places to illustrate how differently he would handle these crises.

Manville, NJ to Survey the Flooding and Explosions
Biden: “These storms tell us this is code red. The nation and the world are in peril. And that’s not hyperbole.”  To a family whose home burned down: “Well, thank God you’re safe.”

Trump: “This isn’t about climate change. You know the old Morton Salt saying that when it rains it pours.” To a family of flooding victims-“Here’s some rolls of Bounty paper towels, the brand known for being the quicker picker upper.  Catch!”

Queens, NY
Biden: To family rescued from flooded basement apartment- “This is why we’ve got to build back better.  I know the sorrow of those who have lost loved ones.  Have you ever heard about how I grieved for my son Beau?”
Trump: “Why are you living in basements?  You need to move to high-rises.  Call my sons if you’re interested in moving into one of the vacant apartments in Trump Tower.”

Saint John the Baptist Parish Emergency Operations Center in Louisiana:
Biden: “There’s nothing political about this. It’s just simply about saving lives and getting people back up and running, and we’re in this together. And we’re not going to leave any community behind, and I promise to have your backs until this gets done.”
Trump: “I would prioritize aid to Louisiana which voted 58 % to 40 % for Trump.  I’m less committed to New Jersey and New York because neither voted for me.  Their Democratic governors rigged the election for Biden!  Be wary of hurricanes that come up from south of the border.  That region doesn’t send its best weather to us, but rather the worst bringing floods, strong winds, and even tornadoes.  We’ve got to build a wall to keep those Latino storms out.”

Future Visit to California Areas Scorched by Wildfires:
Biden on allocating funds for fighting fires and rebuilding: “Wildfires are a problem for all of us and we have to stay closely coordinated in doing everything we can for our people.  That’s why I asked the governors to join us — Democrats and Republicans alike — to update me and the Vice President directly on what they need and what we can possibly do more of.”
Trump: “As you may RECALL I advised Newsom to remove undergrowth and dead wood from forest floors.  He failed to do that which is why you should RECALL him.  Although I’m not as old as Biden, you should respect and elect your Elder.”
