‘Always Sunshine in the Sky:’ Remembering Holocaust Survivor Harry Rosen

By Sandra Scheller

CHULA VISTA, California — Holocaust survivor Harry Rosen passed on April 7, 2022. Born on August 9, 1923, he is now next to his wife, Zipporah Rosen, in Israel. He is survived by his son, Amnon who lives in Israel. This video shows his final days and now burial in Israel:

For those who knew Harry, will be remembered as a positive soul that had the best advice. He always had a smile and reminded us that we must live for today because we do not know what will happen to tomorrow.

Harry and his family escaped from Nazi Germany in 1935 by saying they were going on a picnic. He later fought in Israel’s War of Independence and met his wife Fanny, a concentration camp survivor from Romania. Together with their two sons, they moved to San Diego in the 1960s. He worked for Rohr industries as an airplane mechanic. His story can be heard here:

Harry Rosen was part of the Holocaust stories for RUTH Remember Us The Holocaust because of his working in Chula Vista for 25 years.

Harry Rosen

He was an active member of The New Life Club, enjoying his outings with others that were in the Holocaust. He was so appreciative to Jewish Family Service of San Diego and considered the staff as a member of his family. To learn more about Harry Rosen, visit here and read between pages 200-205.

Harry Rosen will be remembered at Chula Vista City Hall Chambers at 5 p.m. on April 26 by Mayor Mary Salas.

A Harry Rosen quote: “Be positive. Don’t see everything in black. There is always sunshine in the sky. You should never forget your past but don’t dwell on it.”
