SAN DIEGO — Notwithstanding the generous financial support and leadership in the Jewish community of her grandparents and parents, a growing number of pro-Israel Jews are angry at Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-San Diego) for what they say have been her numerous stands against Israel and in favor of Israel’s adversaries as demonstrated by her voting, advocacy, and even dating.
Jacobs voted Saturday, April 20, in favor of funding for a $95 billion package incorporating aid for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, but her explanation why she cast that vote prompted a backlash from supporters of Israel.
Jacobs wrote that the Israel aid bill “will help address the preventable, catastrophic famine that has started in northern Gaza and assist the 1.5 million displaced Palestinians who need immediate food, water, first aid, and shelter in Rafah. While I’m deeply concerned about further military assistance to Israel, I couldn’t in good conscience vote against this lifesaving humanitarian assistance when millions of people around the world are suffering. I’m proud that Democrats demanded including humanitarian assistance as a condition of supporting any package. Going forward, the U.S. must enforce existing law and policy and withhold further offensive weapons to Israel, given the reports of restrictions on humanitarian assistance and significant civilian casualties.”
In response, Jean Gaylis, an active member of the Jewish community, wrote to San Diego Jewish World: “It’s imperative that SD and CA Jews really understand Sara Jacobs and her ‘strategy’ when she votes….given her relationship with her partner and her past voting record.”
Jacobs’ romantic “partner” is Palestinian-Mexican-American former congressional candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar, who sought unsuccessfully the East County seat now occupied by Republican Darrell Issa and also lost a bid to become mayor of Chula Vista.
As related by Wikipedia, “Campa-Najjar’s grandfather Muhammad Youssef al-Najjar, known as ‘Abu Youssef,’ has been the subject of significant controversy. In 1965, while working in Kuwait, Abu Youssef founded Fatah along with Yasser Arafat and other exiled Palestinians. He was long believed to have been affiliated with the Munich massacre [of Israel’s Olympic athletes.] He was among those targeted in Mossad assassinations following the Munich massacre. On April 9, 1973 al-Najjar and his wife were killed in their Beirut, Lebanon apartment in Israeli raid on Lebanon. The attack occurred while their children were home. The Israeli commando team was led by future prime minister Ehud Barak. Campa-Najjar and Barak met in Washington, D.C. in October 2019.
“In February 2018, a book published by Ronen Bergman, Rise and Kill First, challenged the historical assumption that those targeted in Operation Wrath of God were actually behind the Munich massacre. In 2019 in response to this new information, Campa-Najjar withdrew some of the condemnations he had made against his grandfather.”
An angry letter to San Diego Jewish World from Diane Berdugo said, in part: “Sara Jacobs, was one of 43 Democrats that voted against the Congressional declaration that ‘From the river to the sea’ chant is antisemitic.”
Prior to last Saturday’s vote on aid to Israel, Dan Pritsker tabulated Jacobs’ voting record and her stance on various congressional letters affecting Israel. As shown below, it is a mixed record, supportive of Israel in some cases but growing more and more critical of the Jewish state as time went on. It also shows opposition to measures to curb the power of Israel’s arch-nemesis, Iran.
Jacobs serves on two committees that regularly impact Israel: the House Foreign Relations Committee and the House Armed Services Committee.

Jacobs’ press secretary, Laura McIlvaine, commented: “Rep. Jacobs has issued over a dozen statements detailing her condemning the Oct. 7th attack including Hamas’ use of sexual violence, supporting Israel’s right to defend itself and providing defensive aid to Israel, and calling for the hostages to be released. She continues to believe that a two-state solution is the best path to long-term safety and security for Israelis and Palestinians. She’s also called for a permanent and immediate ceasefire to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to Palestinians and to release the hostages. “
McIlvaine included the following statements issued by Jacobs in response to the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas and the subsequent war in Gaza:

San Diego County’s Jewish community is diverse and includes a spectrum of opinions about Israel, its government, its relations with Arab and other Muslim countries, including Iran. There are supporters here of AIPAC and of JStreet, political action groups that often advocate for opposite U.S. policies toward Israel, AIPAC being the more Zionistic of the two. Just as there is a spectrum of Jewish religious practices, ranging from Chasidic to Humanistic, with many Jewish movements in between, so too do San Diego County Jews reflect a broad range of political opinions from right-wing Conservative to left-wing “Progressive.”
Part of the surprise over Jacobs’ voting record is the role that her grandparents, Qualcomm co-founder Irwin and Joan Jacobs, have played in the financing of Jewish institutions in the county, as well as the role her parents Gary and Jerri-Ann Jacobs have taken in community leadership.
To name just a few of Joan and Irwin Jacobs’ contributions to the Jewish community:

Congresswoman Jacobs’ father, Gary Jacobs, has served as president of the Lawrence Family JCC and of the Jewish Federation of San Diego. He also has served as president of the Jewish Community Centers of North America. He and his wife Jerri-Ann founded the Jacobs Teen Leadership Institute which sponsored trips for American Jews and Israeli Arabs and Jews to Spain and other centers where Muslims and Jews productively coexisted.

This is so upsetting. I’m wondering how disappointed her parents and grandparents must be. Either way, as she continues in this path, I know who I will not be voting for.
It’s not our place to imagine her ancestors’s reaction.
On the more concrete side, maybe she fails to understand that the goal of current pro-Palestine camp is not coexistence but rather the elimination of Israel.
It is so heartbreaking to see a Jew promulgating hate and misinformation about Jews and Israel. Instead of supporting her community, she has turned her back. Her voting record shows us how she really feels. I fully support her opponent, Mayor Bill Wells, who has shown how pro Israel he is time and time again, and Hope others in our community do the same!

What we see on university campuses, especially in recent days where they don’t even try to mask their antisemitism and Jewish student intimidation and harassment, is not another political game either. This is a corrosion of values that is fueled by the radical left, which Sara Jacobs chose to associate herself with by voting with the antisemitic “Squad”. This is not a political game, but a mortal danger to Jews and the Jewish state, while Sara Jacobs only cares about her seat and petty politics.

As a Jewish woman living in San Diego, I strongly believe that our representative in Congress should truly represent the people and their values. It is evident that Sara’s voting record does not align with the interests of our community, including the Jewish perspective and the issues important to the local San Diego community. Moreover, the state of our borders is a concern that needs urgent attention which she has failed to do just one important issue. We need a representative who will address these issues and work towards finding effective solutions both dealing with the awful rise in anti semitism and supporting unapologetically our beloved Israel. My parents survived the Holocaust.
Much of their family did not.

Jacob’s comments have shown weak moral stance when it comes to antisemitism in San Diego. I Will not be voting for her, and I will encourage my friends and acquaintances to vote for her opponent, somebody who can clearly recognize them call out evil.

Getting her vote for the aid to Israel was critical – thank heavens for her … boyfriend who probably had to convince her to sign the bill (in spite of the aid in supporting Israel – you know, the only place in the Middle East where voting matters) under the pretense of “humanitarian aid” for the terrorists to be able to get more support from the west to continue their genocidal work against Jews and Israel!

I am a Christian voter who is deeply disappointed with Sara Jacob’s silence for her Jewish and Zionist constituents. It is curious her vote for the aid package was dependent on her conscience, “[She] couldn’t in good conscience vote against this lifesaving humanitarian assistance when millions of people around the world are suffering.” It’s not just Palestinians suffering Ms. Jacobs, shall we begin the list of other groups, with larger numbers, who are needlessly suffering at the hands of their country’s “government” ? Unfortunately for her who she dates is also an issue. If refugee status is passed from generation to generation, is her romantic partner considered a Palestinian refugee? Who has familial ties to the Fatah and Arafat? Does that not have some influence on how she thinks and votes—people do wild things in the lavender haze of love. Thanks to her parents’ philanthropic donations to the Jewish community, I have been to some incredible events at the JCC and listened to an incredible speech at the Jacob’s Family Center at Beth El. These events brought the Jewish community and its allies closer together in unwavering unity and collective love in our hearts. I understand she has a busy schedule, but why hasn’t she showed up for events held for her Jewish constituents at places her parents funded? If she is proud to be Jewish and believes in Israel’s existence, why not be loud and proud? Or is this more of the what’s good for me, not for thee mentality?
Undergirding my thoughts about Sara Jacobs is the fact that she IS NOT a resident of CA-51 but only sought office for political power. A person with no experience in the real world, ever (no work history…internships do not count as work). Just a cold and callous attitude to the working class people of our district. I’ve listened personally to people who have spoken in pain about her having the SS(FBS?) “visit” them because they do not like her and have spoken out. When I publicly asked about the Qatar trip a few months later on July 31, 2021, Jacob was clearly not pleased and snapped that it was for our benefit here in San Diego. She sees herself opening up our city and the people of our district to Qatar. She took the money, slept in the luxury hotel bed, ate the food, drank the drink and embraced Qatar.

Guests on the free ride were put up at the posh Villa Rosa Kempinski Nairobi, which describes itself online as a “luxury five-star hotel,” touting “a rich culinary experience accentuated with Italian classics, Arabian flavors, and international cuisine,” and Somalia’s five-star Hotel Mansoor. Between gourmet meals, Jacobs and House colleagues embarked on a tour featuring “the successes and the challenges of [the] hunger crisis in Kenya and Somalia.” according to the San Diego Reader investigation

If you care about the safety and security of the global Jewish community and Israel, the only person to vote for is Bill Wells. So please spread the word to those who have the opportunity to vote for Bill. This is the most effective way to support Israel!

SMH – had once really admired Sara and ashamed to say that I voted for her without investigating the way I typically do of others. I took it as a given that she would be one with integrity and good in WA. Lesson learned.

I read some of those comments and “they were fair”. Jacobs is one of those Jewish folks who always say “I have your back while being nowhere to be found” Prime example would be Michael Cohen from the Trump case. As a Democrat, Jacobs plays both ends of the issue even though her religion and people are under attack. Think of this,
if Jacobs was a house member back in 1940, would side with both the Nazi’s and the Jews meanwhile six million died. She is trying to say, well “both parties” should show restraint, but remember, Israel did not cast the first stone and the Palestinian’s voted to have Hamas represent them, I say they deserve what they get.
Now let’s dabble into her personal life a bit. She was or is dating Ammar Campa-Najjar and has anyone here besides myself know about this individual? His grandfather was?

Who is the grandson of one of the masterminds of this massacre? Ammar Campa-Najjar. So when I call Sara Jacobs a “JINO” because she is. She might have a Jewish last name, wear a Star of David, go to her local Synagogue but she is no Jew if she can’t support her people who have had a knife at their throat since 1948.
She deserves what she get’s in my opinion and is an enemy to the Jewish people.
Personally, I appreciate Congresswoman Sara Jacobs who has managed to balance values, beliefs, opinions of over 700,000 constituents in San Diego with her own as a Jewish woman. Today, tikkun olam — Hebrew for “repairing the world” — is ubiquitous. I, an American Jews consider it a cornerstone of my Jewish identity, a key reason I am committed to making the world a better place. The world is broken, so we human beings must repair it by committing to social justice, political activism, or, in the broadest sense, ethical behavior. Congresswomen Jacobs is following her beliefs and doing her best to balance those of her constituents.

I was so proud when you got elected…. a Jewish woman representing us….. now all I am is ashamed and disappointed. You are an embarrassment to your community and your people! Shame on you!!
Sarah’s voting records and public statements are drifting away from her Jewish heritage, more and more towards the radical left camp. I am disappointed and will look for someone sane to represent myself come next election. Someone who cares about Jewish heritage, truth and sanity.
