  1. Thank you Rabbi. You have put these ancient laws into perspective. My work is focused on criminal behavior of the most egregious of animal cruelty offenders. Sadly, the incidents of extreme animal cruelty are rising while the age of offenders is much younger than in the past. We desperately need to return to core values and ethics; the most basic of which is to love and care for one another, including our animals.

    The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer? Yes. Millions of animals suffer because humans think they cannot survive without eating them. Eating a plant-based diet is the only way to truly avoid animal cruelty. One may not be slaughtering the animal oneself , but still contributing to their suffering and death. As far as kosher slaughter is concerned, there is no such thing as humane slaughter.
