Editor’s Note: This year, the shofar will be blown on the second day of Rosh Hashanah, Sunday, Sept. 13, and in the Yom Kippur closing (Neilah) service, on the evening of Monday, Sept. 21.

TODAY the shofar
Shook me awake—
From somewhere afar—
With piercing sounds’ quake
To make me take note
Taking in a blast’s scream
Shivering … antidote …
Into a truer dream.
