LA JOLLA, California (Press Release) — When local surgeon Dr. Leslie Giesemann was looking for good preschool programs for her son Benjamin, she chose the Jewish Community Center, which began a relationship that grew to include her whole family. While not from the Jewish community herself, she says she found it to be such a warm and welcoming environment that she became not only a member, but also a financial supporter as a way of giving back to the community.
After Benjamin had started attending preschool and the various camps the JCC offers, Dr. Giesemann’s mother Helen, a retired nurse, became an active member of the JCC Senior Center herself, volunteering for many events and activities. When Helen relocated to the Phoenix area last year, she became connected with the JCC there as well and is now enjoying being a part of that community.
Now that Dr. Giesemann has recently opened a store specializing in quality compression wear, The Standing Sock, it was a natural match to partner with the Jewish Community Center to sponsor one of the tees at its Sept. 30 charity golf event. The Standing Sock also is donating over one hundred free fittings with Dr. Giesemann ($300 value each), as well as contributing a stay in a Palm Springs condominium for the auction. To be held at the beautiful Del Mar Country Club, this tournament will raise funds to benefit vital community services and programming at the JCC. You can register online at www.lfjcc.org.
From a business standoint, having The Standing Sock store as a sponsor for a golf event brings it to the attention of people who can benefit from the store, like golfers and others who are active or on their feet all day. The Standing Sock was developed by Dr. Leslie Giesemann in association with her nurse mother. Dr. Giesemann says compression garments work by improving venous and lymphatic circulation leading to decreased leg cramping, swelling, varicose veins and other issues. People in the medical fields have long known their value, but more non-medical people are using compression socks now, such as marathon runners and golfers, Dr. Giesemann says.
“I wanted to take the mystery out of buying compression garments and make them more accessible to a wide audience,” she said. “We have fashionable styles that are far from the out-dated image of the medical-looking compression garments your grandmother may have worn way back when. So many different people can benefit from wearing them, but don’t know how to get the best fit or what’s out there.”
The Standing Sock company includes support of charities such as the Jewish Community Center as part of its mission statement. The company plans a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 20, at 7090 Miramar Road, Suite 102 in San Diego.

Hi there,
Love the article! Just wanted to point out a typo at the beginning of paragraph 4. “From a business standoint” should probably be “standpoint…”
Anyway, thanks for the great write-up!
