SAN DIEGO–Jeff Silberman, chair of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego, announced Thursday, Dec. 5, that Marjory Kaplan, the Foundation’s president and CEO, will retire in 2015, and that a search for her replacement will be launched. Here is the text of his announcement:
“After nearly 20 successful years at the Jewish Community Foundation, Marjory Kaplan has decided to retire as President and CEO. She plans to serve in her current role until early 2015 and we anticipate that Marjory will have an ongoing engagement with the Foundation.
“When Marjory joined the Foundation in 1994, total assets were under $15 million and the annual grants were just $1 million. Today, we are the largest grant making organization in the region with nearly $98 million granted during the last fiscal year. Assets now exceed $300 million.
“Under her leadership, the Foundation has helped to create an extraordinary culture of giving in San Diego. Marjory has brought innovative programs to our community, most notably the Endowment Leadership Institute and family philanthropy initiatives. Marjory has also been responsible for building an excellent staff and volunteer network to support a smooth transition after her retirement. During her tenure, the Foundation has come to be regarded as a model of outstanding governance.
“A search committee has been formed and a recruitment process will begin early next year. Our goal is to find the person with the leadership, management and foundation experience that can build on the great organization that Marjory has developed. We have been so fortunate to have Marjory as the leader of the Foundation and we look forward to her continued involvement in our community.”
