Two prominent Jewish philanthropic families will have their names forever linked to cancer treatment at a hospital being built on the UCSD campus in La Jolla. The hospital is called the Jacobs Medical Center, after the family of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs and his wife Joan Jacobs. According to a Page A-1 story by Paul Sisson in the U-T, three floors of that center will be the Pauline and Stanley Foster Hospital for Cancer Care

In the U-T’s “People” column on Page A-2, it is reported that singer Paul Simon and his wife Edie Brickell won’t have to face disorderly conduct charges following a fight at their home. New York City prosecutors are dropping the case.

Kristina Davisof the U-T reports on page B-2 that Superior Court Judge Louis Hanoian sided with District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis by dismissing a civil suit brought against her by Jason Moore, a former Chula Vista city employee, who contended he was prosecuted about lying about his attendance at a campaign event because of a vendetta Dumanis had against officials in that city. The judge said nothing alleged “would have prevented the rendition of judgment.”

U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D-Michigan) grilled stock market executives about high volume computerized trading, a Bloomberg News story in the U-T reported. “We’ve got to rid our market of conflicts of interest to the extent that it’s humanly possible,” Levin said at the end of a senate hearing on Tuesday, June 17.

In its “Off The Wall” on Page D-2, the U-T reported about 11 year old Lucy Li who is playing in the Women’s Open Golf Tournament. The article noted that Morgan Pessel had just turned 13 when she played in 2001 in the same event.
