GOP voters pick Jewish candidate for Missouri governor

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri — A former Navy SEAL whose organization, The Mission Continues, has focused on encouraging fellow veterans to take leadership roles in civilian life, has been nominated by Republican voters as the next governor of Missouri.

Before Eric Greitens can claim that honor, however, he must face  Missouri’s Attorney General Chris Koster, a Democrat, in a general election.

Pleased that a fellow Jew had won the GOP nomination, the Republican Jewish Coalition issued a statement that it looks “forward to ensuring he becomes the next Governor of Missouri.

“At a time when our country faces uncertainty at home and abroad, Commander Greitens’ service and leadership proves he is the right man for the job,” said Matt Brooks, the coalition’s executive director.  “Missourians would be lucky to have a man of his caliber lead their great state.”

Greitens had switched to the Republican party from the Democratic one, whereas Koster had switched to the Democratic party from the Republican one.
