The U-T’s People column on Page A-2 took up the comments Gary Oldman made about Jews in Hollywood (for which he later apologized). About Mel Gibson, Oldman said that the actor “is in a town run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him, and doesn’t need to feed him anymore because he’s got enough dough.” …. In another item the U-T took note that a rough manuscript by Bob Dylan for his son “Like a Rolling Stone” sold at auction for $2 million. Who bought it? That person was anonymous, or as the song says, he or she is “like a complete unknown.”

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis took a double hit on the U-T editorial page (B-5). An unsigned editorial said her refusal to turn over to the media a letter of recommendation she wrote for the son of a Mexican billionaire indicted for illegal campaign contributions in American elections “is absurd.” The newspaper said “the region’s top law enforcement officer should be an exemplar of transparency and integrity.” In the letters to the editor column, reader Roger Roberts wrote that by refusing to obey her own directive against using government letterhead for personal correspondence Dumanis prompts the question whether she is “above the law? Or above her own directive?”
