Humoring the headlines: June 6, 2017

SAN DIEGO−Donald Trump has challenged London Mayor Sadiq Khan to an IQ test after he said Trump was ignorant about Islam.  Khan tweeted back that Trump’s hashtag should be Sad IQ Con, but Trump bragged he will win because the test consists of one question and only he knows the answer: What is the definition of kovfefe?

Despite telling his Secretaries of State and Defense and top security advisor that he would reaffirm the US commitment to NATO’s Article 5 to aid any member country that was attacked, President Trump omitted this declaration from his speech in Brussels.  Apparently he believes NATO stands for Not America’s Treaty Obligation.

In his interview with Megyn Kelly, Vladimir Putin claimed he was unaware of any meetings Russia’s Ambassador to the United States had with members of Trump’s campaign and transition teams and asked her, “Do you think that I have time to talk to our ambassadors every day?”  Kelly found his denial plausible given that President Trump hasn’t even had time to appoint ambassadors to most countries in the world.

Reacting to the decision of Saudi Arabia to break relations with Qatar, President Trump tweeted, “So good to see the Saudi Arabia visit with the King already paying off.  They said they would take a hard line on funding extremism.”  Now all he needs to do is get the Saudis to stop funding its fundamentalist mosques and madrassas around the world.

Today is the 73rd anniversary of the Allied assault on the Normandy beaches.  If Donald Trump had been President in 1944, US troops would have been dispatched to defend America’s east, west, and Gulf coasts to guarantee the security of its beach resorts.
