ADL to lead int’l group of police to Israel

ADL logoNEW YORK (Press Release)–A delegation of law enforcement executives from around the globe are participating in an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) National Counter-Terrorism Seminar (NCTS) in Israel from March 8-16, meeting with security experts, intelligence analysts, and commanders in the Israel National Police to learn about effective methods of terror attack prevention and response.

As part of the program, the group will attend high-level briefings on the operational response to terrorism, border and airport security, maintaining safety and access to holy sites, the role of advanced technology in policing, and use of media during a crisis.

The program, first launched in 2004, is designed to help law enforcement executives gain a firsthand understanding of the impact of terrorism on civil society and allow them to interact directly with their Israeli police peers. The week-long seminar also includes opportunities to tour some of Israel’s most significant archaeological and religious sites, and to learn about Israeli society.

“Israelis are experts on matters of national security, in part because they are living under the constant threat of attack,” said David Friedman, ADL Director of National Law Enforcement Initiatives. “The National Counter-Terrorism Seminar is a tremendous opportunity for law enforcement professionals from around the globe to learn from Israel’s sophisticated security measures, and to draw from those techniques when implementing safety measures in their own communities.”

Among the mission participants are law enforcement executives from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Marshals Service, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Italian National Police, Austrian National Police, and the New York City, Chicago, and Denver police departments, among others.
