JERUSALEM (TNA)–Ziad Awad, 42, a terrorist released in the Gilad Schalit deal, is responsible for the murder of Baruch Mizrahi, the senior Israeli police officer killed on Passover eve near Hebron, according to Israeli police. Awad, a resident of the Arab village Idna near Hebron, was arrested by an elite police unit while they were searching for the three abducted boys last week.

Police Commander Mizrachi was murdered on April 14, on Passover eve, when he was on the way with his family to celebrate Passover. His wife was wounded in the attack. A senior police officer notified the wife about the terrorist’s capture.

DNA samples, finger prints and other incriminating material were collected at the attack scene. An indictment was filed Monday, June 23, against Awad for murder and attempted murder. His son, A Adin Awad, aged 18, was also arrested for aiding him arrange the attack and to flee the scene.

Awad was released in October 2011 as part of the Schalit prisoner exchange deal after he was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Arabs who were suspected of collaborating with Israel.
