NEW YORK (Press Release) — “The escalating terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and other areas are of grave concern and must be put to an end. Israel must do everything possible to protect its citizens and restore peaceful conditions. The Palestinian Authority must immediately take steps to restore order. Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian officials must end their inciteful comments. His reference on Monday to igniting a religious war as well as his earlier statements which urged that Jews should be blocked from entering the Temple Mount ‘by all means necessary’ and denying any Jewish connection to its holiest site only serve to raise tensions and encourage further violence. These attacks should instead be condemned by Mr. Abbas and the Palestinian leadership, international community and the United Nations,” said Conference of Presidents leaders Robert Sugarman, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO.
“The daily attacks on the light railroad, drivers, and individuals going about their daily lives as well as the desecration of scores of graves on the Mount of Olives cannot be tolerated. Israel has demonstrated restraint but no democratic society can allow the rule of law and the safety and security of its people to be endangered.”
Sugarman and Hoenlein expressed their condolences to the families of the 26 year old woman and 20 year old man who were killed in Sunday’s attacks and extended their prayers for the full recovery of those wounded in these attacks.
