LA MESA, California (Press Release) — The oil paintings of Israeli artist Aaron Zigel will be featured through March 15 at the O’Dunn Fine Art at 8325 La Mesa Bouleverd in La Mesa Village, an international first for the gallery.

Zigel, who lives and paints in Raanana, Israel, is represented by several galleries in that country, as well as on the Monterey Peninsula in California.

“His exuberant oils celebrate color, the beautiful landscapes and seascapes of Israel, and the comforts and beauty inherent in quiet domestic scenes,” commented Shannon O’Dunn, owner of the gallery. “He is enchanted with flowers, and bouquets are often the focal point of his lively still life paintings. His personal habitat stands at the center of his work: warm, reassuring, and intimate. Zigel, in the path of Van Gogh, Cezanne and Matisse, also celebrates the contemplative hospitality of a simple chair, a windblown drape, a piece of fruit.”

O’Dunn said that Zigel’s oils are “founded in primary colors, and saturated with bold complimentary hues. This artist is having a ball with color! In the tradition of 20th century fauvists and expressionists, his treatment of recognizable scenes and objects often leaves aside traditional perspective, in favor of an ‘object language’ that fully evokes the emotional impact of flowers, chairs, boats, and trees.”

“Aaron Zigel was born to Holocaust survivors who emigrated from Poland to Jaffa. He studied printmaking and graphics as a profession. He still works in the printing business, while painting these wonderful canvases.
