ENCINITAS, California (Press Release) – To have the opportunity to honor Lee and Frank Goldberg is indeed a celebration in every sense of the word for San Diego Hebrew Homes and Seacrest Foundation. We write San Diego Hebrew Homes instead of the name, Seacrest Village, (which is how the organization has been referred for the past many years) as Lee & Frank Goldberg first began their support of the organization when it was the Hebrew Home on 54th Street in San Diego.
Lee and Frank were instrumental in the creation of what is now the Encinitas Campus of Seacrest Village Retirement Communities. From the creation of the project along with other tremendous leaders, to countless meetings in their home and negotiations to make the dream a reality, Lee and Frank led the charge. Seacrest Village is what it is today because of them and the honor is truly ours.
From serving as Board President, running the Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Shows and Galas, leading capital campaigns and more, the Goldberg’s have been steadfast supporters of the organization and its staff for over 5 decades.
Having had family members reside at Seacrest created an additional layer of understanding of how the organization works. Lee and Frank were true examples in their unwavering love and support of their relatives and, visiting almost daily and supporting the staff who cared for them.
Robin Israel recalls when Mr. Goldberg’s mother moved in to the Encinitas Campus. She shared that every weekday at exactly 5 p.m. Mr. Goldberg would walk through the front door, say hello to the staff, and then go see his mom. It made a lasting impact to all the staff who still talk about it to this day.
Over the years the Goldberg’s have made it very evident that the most important work that the organization does is to provide a safe and secure home for those who otherwise could not afford it. Because of this they have been tremendous supporters of the Charitable Care Program amongst many other efforts.
Seacrest Foundation and the Women’s Auxiliary will host the Annual Gala honoring this beautiful and inspiring couple on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla with Lee & Franks daughters, Suzi Feldman and Anne Nagorner serving as Gala Chairs. Proceeds from the annual gala are directed to benefit the Seacrest Village charitable care program: The Resident Assistance Fund. The Fund provides support for current and future residents who have depleted their financial resources and have nowhere to turn for housing and healthcare.
The evening will celebrate the many residents and families whose lives have been transformed as a result of the care and services they receive at Seacrest Village. This will be a very special event as we not only honor Lee & Frank Goldberg, but also the 75th year of Seacrest Village Retirement Communities (San Diego Hebrew Homes) being a lifeline in our community. Hundreds of guests are expected to attend to support this important cause.
Mary Epsten, Seacrest Foundation Board Member and Women’s Auxiliary President, and Anne Nagorner, who is also a Seacrest Foundation Board Member, along with sister, Suzi Feldman, have a dedicated Steering Committee in place to make this event a success. Many thanks go to Rusti Bartell, Melissa Bartell, Judy Belinsky, Cindy Bloch, Liz Coden, Suzanne Cohen, Dalia Cohen, Esther Fischer, Jean Gaylis, Sylvia Geffen, Merrill Haimsohn, Shelle Orlansky, Stacey Parselany, Monica Perlman, Shirley Pidgeon, Lori Polin, Sharon Wax, Alana Ziman, and Helene Ziman.
“For 40 years, the San Diego community has turned out in impressive numbers to help raise money that gives hope to seniors who are desperately in need of housing, comfort and support,” said Robert Haimsohn, President of Seacrest Foundation. “Each year we gather to support Seacrest’s important mission of providing services to seniors in a Jewish environment that promotes community, independence and innovation, while having fun at the same time. Every day for the next 19 years, 10,000 baby boomers will reach age 65. The need for senior care is going to be tremendous and I am grateful to the entire Goldberg family for their friendship and support.”
