SDJW endorses Will Moore, Stephen Whitburn S.D. for City Council

SAN DIEGO – Congratulations to the San Diego Union-Tribune for allowing us in some depth to examine the answers of dueling political candidates.  I found the U-T question-and-answer sessions particularly helpful in weighing the relative merits of the Democrats running in the 1st and 3rd City Council Districts.  No Republican candidate in either of those two districts made it to the Nov. 3 runoff election.

Given that the contenders are Democrats, and from a policy point of view seem to be in general agreement on such issues facing the city as homelessness, affordable housing,  infrastructure development and responding to the Covid19 pandemic, how does one choose between them?

I believe the answer lies in how well the candidates articulate their ideas.  Do they simply repeat the platitudes that so often passes for political thought, or do they bring new concepts and methodologies to the table?

In comparing the U-T interviews of Joe LaCava and Will Moore in the 1st District, and of Toni Duran and Stephen Whitburn in the 3rd district, the answer was quite obvious.  Moore and Whitburn bring more to the table than their well-intentioned, acceptable but not extraordinary opponents.

Read the interviews for yourself.   Here are links to the U-T’s questions-and-answers with Joe LaCava and Will Moore in the 1st District, and with Toni Duran and Stephen Whitburn in the 3rd.

We recommend votes for Will Moore in the 1st Council District and Stephen Whitburn in the 3rd District.
