SAN DIEGO — Outdoors, masked, and socially distanced, members of the Tifereth Israel Synagogue Men’s Club who served in the military raised the American flag, played recorded military music, and briefly recounted some of their experiences protecting America.

Among the Veterans Day participants on Wednesday, Nov. 11,  was Stephanie Siegel, whose family’s military service dates back to the American Revolutionary War, with at least one member of each generation since then enlisting in the U.S. military.  Siegel served for more than 20 years, and now her son is the Armed Forces.

Others who spoke include Alan Goldenberg, who served as an enlisted man on the USS Iwo Jima and was sent to the Middle East when the 1973 Yom Kippur War broke out between Israel and Egypt.

Medical Doctors Bill Friedel, who served in the Air Force but was lent to the U.S. Army, and Ed Cherlin, who was assigned by the Public Health Service to provide psychiatric care to military personnel with post traumatic stress disorder were among the participants of the ceremony which was emceed by Dr. Bill Sperling, who had served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy’s medical service.

The video above provides some highlights of the Veteran’s Day commemoration.
