How to help Mt. Meron Victims’ Families

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The Jewish Community Foundation issued the following notice to its donors and others interested in helping the victims of the Mt. Meron stampede, in which some 45 people were killed and many more injured.

“We are saddened by the tragic events of last week in Israel. At least 45 people were killed and over 150 wounded in a stampede at a mass gathering in northern Israel marking the festival of Lag B’Omer. The annual event took place on Mount Meron in the Upper Galilee. We mourn all those who lost their lives, including at least six US citizens and two Canadians. Dozens of children are among the dead and wounded, and we include all of the wounded in our prayers for healing.

“As the circumstances and needs unfold in Israel, we will continue to monitor the situation and identify any additional organizations providing support to the families who have lost loved ones and to the many people who were injured with dozens still hospitalized.

“Here are a few organizations providing aid and support.”

ZAKA Search and Rescue
In any medical emergency, time is of the essence, with the first four minutes often meaning the difference between life and death. ZAKA paramedics are on-call every hour of every day and deployed around the country.

The Jewish Agency for Israel
Their team mobilized a global effort over the weekend for a moment of silence to come together as one Jewish People to mourn and honor those who lost their lives.

Magen David Adom
MDA’s preparation for the event and its rapid response greatly reduced fatalities. Magen David Adom is Israel’s national ambulance, blood-services, and disaster-relief organization.

United Hatzalah
Israel’s largest independent, non-profit, fully volunteer Emergency Medical Service organization, was on the scene in Meron to help victims.
