Biden appoints Amy Gutmann as US ambassador to Germany

US President Joe Biden confirmed the appointment of Amy Gutmann as ambassador to Germany on Friday, in what many see as a reset of relations between the two countries. Gutmann is to lead the diplomatic mission in Berlin, the first woman to hold the post. Gutmann, 71, is president of Pennsylvania University and author of a series of books focusing on constitutional democracy and human rights. The Senate still needs to approve her appointment which could take several weeks or months.
