SAN DIEGO — We are facing painful and sobering times. The recent murders in Washington, D.C., and the horrific Molotov cocktail attacks on innocent people in Boulder, Colorado, both accompanied by the chilling chant of “Free Palestine,” are stark reminders of the rise in hate and violence that our greater community continues to endure.
Yet, even in the face of darkness, we are witnessing the unwavering strength of our people and our allies. Specifically, the Jewish community of San Diego is a force that cannot be reckoned with and we are reminded daily of how strong, resilient, and united we are.
The Antisemitism Task Force of StandWithUs stands with you. In just the last three months, we’ve seen historic progress: unanimous votes to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism in El Cajon, the City of San Diego’s Human Relations Commission, and Chula Vista. More cities are preparing to bring this forward in the very near future. We are forging powerful alliances by uniting the Jewish community with Christian leaders, including our African American Christian brothers and sisters, as well as leaders within the Muslim community, because the fight against hate is a fight for all of us.
The Antisemitism Task Force successfully advocated for the recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month across Representative Scott Peters’ district, La Mesa, and the County Board of Supervisors. We are working tirelessly with elected officials at every level to ensure that our community is heard, respected, and protected.
Yes, the headlines are heartbreaking, but they cannot define us. What defines us is our resolve, our unity, and our commitment to justice, safety, and truth. Now more than ever, we must stand shoulder to shoulder, proud of who we are and determined to defend the rights and dignity of our people.
Your voice matters. Your time matters. Your financial support matters. We are all making great strides together. We will defeat this Jew hatred by continuing to work together and by exercising our rights as proud Jews.
Continue to join us:
-Speak out against hate: Help us prevent Kehlani, who has glorified violence against Jews, from taking the stage in our city next month during Pride Festival.
– Attend city council meetings and support the adoption of the IHRA.
– June our film screening of the Colleyville, TX hostage crisis on June 10th as we unite as a community.
Please let me know how you would like to be involved. We have the best Jewish community in the USA. Stay strong. Stay United. Stay active.
Am Yisrael Chai.
