WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) — Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51), who represents San Diego, the country’s biggest military community, introduced a war powers resolution on Thursday to end President Donald Trump’s war in Iran and bring her constituents home safely. Thousands of San Diego-based sailors and Marines have deployed to the region, and thousands more have received 48-hour deployment notices.
Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Every day this unnecessary, reckless war continues is another day that my constituents who are deployed to Iran are in harm’s way and at risk of losing their lives. Our service members deserve better than to be treated as expendable – and so do the American people who are being forced to pay over $1 billion per day for this military adventurism. That’s why I’m proud to introduce this war powers resolution to help end this war in Iran and bring my constituents safely home. My colleagues who are blindly supporting this war may not have to answer to our troops, but I do, and I will do everything in my power to protect them.”
Rep. Sara Jacobs joins the efforts of Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) members, including Reps. Ro Khanna (CA-17), Jared Huffman (CA-02), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Maxine Dexter (OR-03), John Garamendi (CA-08), Chuy Garcia (IL-04), Robert Garcia (CA-42), and Becca Balint (VT-AL), who are working in coordination to force votes on ending the war in Iran. War Powers Resolutions are privileged in the House of Representatives, meaning that this resolution will get a vote on the House floor in the coming weeks.

Rebuttal: Ending the War with Iran Now Would Be a Dangerous Mistake
By Stan Caplan
I respect Rep. Sara Jacobs’ right to her opinion, but her resolution to immediately end U.S. military action against Iran is misguided and dangerous — especially for Israel, the Jewish people, and long-term global stability.
As someone running for Congress to replace Rep. Jacobs, I believe we must be clear-eyed about the stakes. Rep. Jacobs argues that the war is “unnecessary and reckless,” that it puts San Diego service members at risk, and that it costs over $1 billion per day. These are serious concerns, but they ignore the larger strategic reality.
Short-term costs vs. long-term survival
Yes, military action is expensive in the short term. But allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons or maintain its proxy network (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, and others) would be far more costly — in both blood and treasure. A nuclear-armed Iran threatening Israel with annihilation is not a risk we can afford. History shows that weakness in the face of existential threats does not bring peace; it invites catastrophe.
“Bring our troops home safely”
Our service members deserve to come home safely, but the best way to protect them is to decisively degrade Iran’s ability to wage war through proxies and nuclear ambitions. Half-measures and premature withdrawals have repeatedly emboldened Iran and its terrorist allies. A strong, clear victory that dismantles Iran’s nuclear program and significantly weakens its proxies will ultimately save American, Israeli, and regional lives.
The Jewish community’s stake
As a Jew, Rep. Jacobs should understand better than most that allowing Iran — a regime that openly calls for Israel’s destruction — to grow stronger is profoundly shortsighted. The Iranian regime funds, arms, and directs the groups that murdered Israelis on October 7, 2023, and continue to attack Jewish targets worldwide. Weakening Iran now protects not only Israel but the entire Jewish people from future atrocities.
A false choice
This is not a binary choice between endless war and immediate withdrawal. It is a choice between confronting a threat now or facing a far worse crisis later. The United States and Israel have every moral and strategic right to prevent a genocidal regime from acquiring nuclear weapons. Congress should support decisive action to eliminate that threat, not rush to end operations before the mission is complete.
The survival of Israel and the security of the Jewish people — and indeed, the stability of the Middle East and the world — must take precedence over short-term political calculations. Half-measures and premature retreats have failed before. Strength and resolve are the only path to real, lasting peace.
The San Diego Jewish community, and all Americans who value security and freedom, deserve leadership that understands this reality.
Sara, If Iran does develop a Nuclear weapon and sets it off (they openly state death to Israel and chant death to America) are you just going to say “sorry I guess I was wrong”. At that point I imagine you will not want to strike back because innocent citizens and children will be at risk.
